Well, 2020 wasn’t quite the year that I had planned! But at least there was one goal achieved…
Even that goal did not go the way I’d planned and with more than one failure along the way. I was eventually awarded my 3rd dan black belt in taekwondo back in July. I said in the Facebook post that I shared with friends and family it was a victory for persistence and resilience.
That is certainly true. I feel slightly sad that it was not in the grand style that I had envisioned, although the missteps were in things that I am usually very confident and capable of. In many respects, it perhaps sums up my year – nothing like what I’d imagined, certainly not at all what I hoped for, but forward progress at least and leaving me with gratitude for that small mercy.
The balance of the year did not pick up hugely, especially from a training perspective. At least there was a football season, so I played and refereed, but the race I was going to do was cancelled. That was a good thing as my legs didn’t make it through the football season unscathed…
Fingers crossed that the faltering achievements of 2020 pave the way for a much better 2021 for all of us! With that, I draw a line under last year and set out with new goals.
