Well, with moving my website over and general life craziness, I have not posted for far too long!
I am thrilled to report that I made most of my training goals for this year:
Soccer finals: not only did we make the finals, we made it all the way to the grand final (which sadly I missed as I was overseas!). Even better, we were minor premiers and made it the the Champion of Champions competition. Sadly to many absences and injuries also meant that we underperformed in that game too, but I am feeling super confident about season 2017!
Taekwondo 1st Dan Black Belt: Oh boy, I made this exactly as I had hoped. I’m a middle aged woman who only started training about 3 years ago, and I am so delighted about this achievement!
Complete Olympic Distance Triathlon: Also done. I’m glad I didn’t set myself a time in this goal. As it turned out I was pretty much unable to train for the month before the event due to injury. I finished and I’m thrilled to have hit that goal but have to say a bit disappointed by my performance. On the upside I have a PB that is totally beatable; and being there for the occasion has inspired my other half to train as well. Noosa 2018 is our next plan. Even better, I’ll be finished my MBA then so in a much better position to train properly. Another win was that the hard work I did on the swim wasn’t wasted. While I’m still by no means fast, I feel so much more confident. I’m not sure I would have even finished the 1.5km in the ocean at Noosa (with quite a big swell) if I had not done that work.
Half marathon in under 2hrs: My miss for the year. I had been training so poorly. Both too slow and insufficient distance. I just had so much on, and I did effectively ditched this as a top priority. I nearly didn’t even turn up for the run. I’m glad I didn’t pike out that badly, but it did remind me that while my baseline fitness isn’t bad, it is a long way from a sub 2hr half! It doesn’t help that I’m probably carrying a few too many kilos right now.
All up not a bad year… I’m proud that I gave all of this a go, while doing pretty much a full time job for a client, plus working on my own business and powering through an MBA. Next post up shortly – goals for 2017. Might try and make these ones realistic 🙂
